Newsflash: The Antichrist, Identified!

Check out this article:

New Christian Army, born in the USA

So some Arab country like the UAE or whoever can now hire Eric Prince's guaranteed Muslim-free All-Christian army to put down those pesky pro-democracy revolts that keep cropping up! Or whatever repression you have in mind! We're flexible...

Hey, fantastic.

***

But you know what?

Here's something scary:

Prince of Darkness

Prince of Blackness

Prince of Black Ness (Loch/Lake)(identified with monster)

Immortal Prince = Eternal Ruler

Eric, (Name etymology, >Norse: Eternal Ruler) Prince of Black Lake

Eric, Prince of Black Lake

Eric Prince, of Blackwater

***

How brazen. It's like the Purloined Letter. Right there in front of you. How appro-poe.

***

So my christian brethren, there it is. Now is the time to shout it from the rooftops! "The Antichrist has been found! The Adversary has been located! He's already building his army!"

"And shit, he's one of us!!!"

  2. Brian,
I ran across a book on kindle for PC that you might like to ck out. It is "Hindu tales from the sanskrit". It is about living in the now. It is also free.

I meant the book "what about now" by Gina Lake

  4. What does a fundie think when they read that half of the NT is a forgery? Written by others, not by who it says wrote it? Added in?

I guess they have no choice but to deny it.

But, how? It's so obviously *possible* that it happened. How can they deny it to themselves? Deny even the possibility?

  5. Hindu Tales from the Sanskrit sounds good too...

Pretty funny dichotomy there though. Let's live in the now, in sanskrit!

I'll check out the free kindle book there. I have kindle. Kindle is fantastic. And I was a total book snob.

  6. Ste B - you have inspired me!

below is the first pass of a new song to the Melody of the Doobie's 'Black Water.

    -----------------------------

Well, without no draft, I built me an army
Whole Middle East, she's callin' my name
    Insurgents are jumpin'
    Rotor blades are thumpin'
Black Water keeps rollin' on past just the same

Old Black Water, keep on rollin'
No bid money, won't you keep on shinin' on me
Old Black Water, keep on rollin'
No bid money, won't you keep on shinin' on me
Old Black Water, keep on rollin'
Middle eastern money, won't you keep on shinin' on me
Yeah, keep on stirring your fight
    Gonna make everything, pretty mama
    Gonna make everything all right
And I ain't got no worries
'Cause there ain’t any oversight at all

  9. Maybe Paul was not the asshole I had thought he was. Salvation of a sort, at least in my mind. I wonder what Observant thinks about his scholars after this, probably disqualify this guy. I thought it funny about people in the past lying to archive an end as though we have outgrown that way of doing business. They have propagated.

  10. Yeah, it makes so much sense that the NT is filled with forgeries. And that Paul is mostly a forgery.
It makes sense that in those days forgeries were commonly inserted into the bible to settle theological disputes. Even Eusebius said that it's acceptable to lie to the people as long as it furthers their faith. And before the writings were put together and codified, it just makes so much sense that most of them floating around at the time, several hundred years after jesus' death, were forged, even before eusebius got at them. It is even known that the apostles were illiterate. How could they write anything down? And scribes were costly, and not common in that day.

It just makes so much sense, it's a sure thing that the christians won't believe it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I used to insist to botts that the bible is an evil book (my definition of evil, as in, harmful) and now it seems that many of the really evil parts, at least in the NT, were inserted by forgers with agendas.

Makes so much sense. But oddly enough, I bet botts would deny it. Deny that anything was forged.

Which is why I say he's conditioned, too. Even though he's a decent sort.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ya know, if they could absolutely prove that there are a lot of forgeries in the bible, christians would adjust by claiming that god wouldn't allow anything that is not his word to be in the bible, so the forgers were also 'inspired' by god....

I just bet they'd go there. Yes I do.

    ReplyDelete
  13. And let's say there are several hundred 'gospels' floating around before constantine and company got at them and collected them into a book.

They got to select which ones made it. Even if they didn't lie directly, they got to choose which ones got into the book. But, they also apparenlty did lie, in addition to all that, if one can believe eusebius' writings, which are pretty damned credible.

    So it's completely biased.

    Worthless.

  14. YAY!

It's about time they found the AntiChrist!

Sure glad it didn't turn out to be me!

It’s an on going joke that never seems to end… Do you think this idiot is the first person who has tried to discredit the Bible? What do you expect him to say ? I mean the guy is marketing his own book and the success of his book rest on discrediting the Bible… The Bible has stood the test of time because it was inspired of God. Jerry, you would respect any and all persons that cast a shadow on the one book that condemns your soul to hell and proves you have not been born again. You’ll probably disqualify the Bible though.

  26. Hi Mike! Glad to see you again!

Uh, once again though, you're wrong. Those critiques of the bible are accurate and furthermore, make sense. Explains a lot of obvious contradictions etc. If it wasn't your holy book, you'd jump on this bandwagon yourself. It's just discrediting a really old book after all. Nothing special. Just an old book. In the day they lied all the time, of course. It was two thousand years ago in a primitive culture.

    Get over yourself, dude.

Dude, that's pathetic. You sound retarded, shallow, and insulting in a gratuitous manner.

It's an old book. Get over it. Full of lies, and you wanna believe them all. Well, you can't. God can't be loving and create hell and torture people forever. God can't be loving and destroy innocent lives. So sure, God may exist and be all-powerful, but even then, even than, an all-powerful being still cannot contradict itself and get away with it. As much as you'd like him to. He can't.

If subsidies for the 'poor' ethanol industries are negative taxation, surely medicare is negative taxation TOO.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Mike, I want to make a point.

Let's say I'm god. Heck, it's only a couple of promotions away from saint anyways, right?

    But seriously, if I'm god.

If I'm god, and Adolph Hitler dies and goes to the hell that I created, and gets to burn forever in a lake of fire or whatever, it's no different than if I put him there myself, right? I created the system, after all. I put satan in charge of hell, etc. I set it all up.

So I put Hitler in hell. Of course you must be able to see this. Even if you say 'well no, it was hitler's choices' etc... that I still a problem, since if he was insane he couldn't make free choices, now could he?

Would I do that? Put an insane evil soul in hell forever? If I were truly a LOVING god?

I mean, would I torture anybody, no matter how evil, forever?

    Forever?

If you were god, you'd do it? Personally oversee the torture and screaming and crying and pleading of a human soul, even a very evil one, forever?

Would that feel good to you? If you were god, I mean? If you were a loving god, that'd be allright?

That is justice to you? What if he was totally insane (likely) and incapable of controlling himself?

Would a loving and merciful god choose to still torture him, forever?

Would such a god choose to torture him even for one minute, is the real question.

Try to imagine Jesus saying 'torturing a bad person is not a sin.'

    Can you really do that?

If you can reconcile Jesus' love for all mankind especially the 'least of my brothers' with torturing an insane and warped soul forever, then you simply have no ability to understand anything of value, in my honest opinion.

And I havent even asked you to consider the possibility open to such an all-powerful god in that scenario. The scenario where the all-powerful god gets hitlers soul and instead of condemning it to eternl agony, simply cures it, and saves it.

You must truly believe that your god is not capable of that, because you never seem to even consider it as a possibility.

To answer your question from your previous post ,I come here because no one outside of here challenges my faith, no one questions the facts, the biblical facts I mean.
I have spent many days searching for answers to questions that you and Ian have purposed.. I still remain steadfast and unmovable. I know you and piney tried to take a stab at how life can be created from non-life All piney did with his verbiage was to prove that he as well as others suspect it could be possible. That’s called theory plain and simple.

    Lies … what lies?
God can be and is loving.
God created hell for the devil, and made a way so man could escape hell, But, if man rejects God and His way… what is left ? It’s either heaven or hell…. If one chooses to go to heaven one must follow the directions ordained of God. I mean after all it is His show… If people don’t like the movie then they can get out of his theater. But, you know what the coming attraction is.
Innocent you say…. Please, He sent the innocent one to die in your place. You cant get more loving then that.
    What has He contradicted?

  31. Oh, and if I, a mere human non-theist, wouldn't choose to torture anybody, no matter how evil they were in life, but would rather see them cured of their evil or their insanity and find some happiness eventuallly, if I hold that position, and your god does not, then logically you must see that that makes me, a mere human, more merciful than your loving god.

You're okay with that, too? I'm just too soft, eh? Jesus wouldn't be that much of a pussy, huh?

Gee, okay, I'll take up with the author. Some humans whose names are lost to us now, who claimed to be divinely inspired. As do many people who want to be believed.

They weren't. They weren't inspired by anything more than a desire to be listened to.

So that answers all my questions and puts the matter to rest for me. You are right; it is the author that is flawed.

Why doesn't it put it to rest for you, is the real question?

You come here because we challenge your faith and yet you maintian that it is unshakeable? Then either we suck, or you're not paying much atention to what we're saying. You seem to need to hear what we're saying, or else you wouldn't come back, now would you?

Have the balls to shake it. To shake your 'unshakeable faith.' It takes real COURAGE. Do you have it in you? Are you man enough? Frankly, while you seem the type to perhaps beat someone up using your TKD moves, and even perhaps enjoy it (in Jesus' name of course) I don't see a lot of real courage in you, not the kind it would take to actually question yourself. That's actually fucking hard to do. Bullying others or beating them up is easy by comparison.

You want the answers to be easy and black-and-white and conveniently written down for you. That's not courage. That's complacency and cowardice, to be frank. You're not using the brain that your god supposedly gave you, after all. Use it, for a change. It can't be a sin, because god gave it to you.

I doubt that you can, but have the balls to try at least. Question your faith.

It will fail the test. You already know that it will, which is why you are scared to try. You know the answer already.

It's called critical thinking, and it works so much better than what you have been doing it's ubelievable. Try it for a change. Learn to (gasp!) question yourself. It's not the horror that you believe it to be. It is how we silly humans learn and grow.

Or keep your head firmly planted in the sand. At least you're comfortable that way, right?

    More stooooooooopidity.

Yes you can get more loving than sending your own son to suffer and die needlessly, since after all you're fucking GOD and you could have easily done it another way that didn't involve torture and death. You don't torture and kill the ones you love. Thats part of the christian sickness.
Although that's what Dennis Rader got out of the bible, so what do I know? Maybe you do worship an evil mass-murderer.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Jesus didn't need to die as some kind of a sacrifice to god remember, since GOD set up the entire system that would require such a sacrifice, and so he could surely have waived it in that case. Of course it was a one-off. So why it would be required by god of his only son when it had never even happened before is a great question. Most easy answer: Your god is a sadist.

I never asked him to kill his son for me, and quite frankly I am appalled that he would be so presumptuous as to do so without my approval.
Some salvation anyhow. If I even doubt I'm damned, and yet god put no evidence here that any sane man can believe.

    ReplyDelete
  41. If god loved jesus then he would have spared him and just saved us wothout the sacrifice. The whole idea of a sacrifice being needed, is a throwback to the bronze age. It's not what we even consider 'human' today, so we're more moral than god is once again.

It seems pretty easy to be more loving and moral than your god is. I wonder why the bar is set so low?

    ReplyDelete
  42. And also, jesus was god, right? So he knew, unlike mere humans being put to death, that he would rise up again afterwards and eventually 'sit at the right hand of the father' and all that.

Plus as god he could likely control his pain and emotions. If he really was god, that is.

Some sacrifice. A human going through that, and many did, wouldn't have that comfort, now would they? They wouldn't KNOW that they would be okay at the end of it all. And humans have been put through much worse than a three-day crucifixion, as bad as that is.

  45. Observant,
Jerry, you would respect any and all persons that cast a shadow on the one book that condemns your soul to hell and proves you have not been born again. You’ll probably disqualify the Bible though.

First, I respect all people. What this guy had to say is as valid as anyone else unless he deny's facts which most if not all bible believing people do without doubt. I respect you, not that I agree with your take on the bible but because you are a human being. Low bar, maybe but in your language Jesus said to do so, of course you do not follow Jesus so how would you know. I do care what you buy into for two reasons; first it is sad that you do not have an open mind so you may experience life more fully, but I honor your choice. second, there is not a we and them, only us. That makes each and every person's ideas influence the whole, and I think your beliefs take away from us all, and instead of you just buying into mistaken ideas you attempt to poison the well by trying to get unsuspecting people to accept your goofy thoughts as though they are true. I truly wish you would learn HOW to think, before you decide WHAT to think

    ReplyDelete
  46. Observant,
Some time ago your asked what I meant by antiquated thinking that the bible is full of. I have thought a long time on how to answer. It is tough because you are so closed minded that getting a thought through to you is close to impossible. So I will offer this analogy. In medicine we have learned much over the past, and have learned that much of what our fore fathers thought if practiced today would be antiquated. Take for example bleeding a person was practiced quite often in years gone by. If you went to a Dr. today and he said I will have to bleed you, he would be stuck in the past, and guilty of antiquated thinking. Time to find a new Dr. Believing the bible is the word of god is antiquated thinking. My guess about your buying into the bible goes something like this. You were raised in a Christian home and went to church often. Over the years you were luke warm to the ideas of religion, and slowly rejected it for the most part. Then you had a spiritual experience, and due to faulty thinking on your part equated that with the bible being the word of god, so bought into the bible, hook, line, and sinker. Every since then you have placed the bible above your own thinking, and have warped your own mind into accepting it, and dismissed any thought that disagreed with it regardless if it was your thought or others. In other words if you or anyone else disagrees with the bible they are wrong period, a no brainer for you. That type of thinking is antiquated in itself.

  55. Here's an interesting question that just popped into my head:

Didn't god, all-powerful and all-knowing and omnipotent god, have the power to change satan and make him good, instead of creating an entire realm of evil for him to rule in?
    Apparently not.

    Godfail.

    ReplyDelete
  56. If god is all-powerful, does he have the power to violate his promises to us? Say, about free will?

If god is all-knowing, why didn't he see satan's rebellion in heaven coming? Why didn't he know the snake got into the garden?

Yes, these and many other questions are brought to you by 'questions that mike doesn't dare to ask himself' a division of Cowardice, inc.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Ahh, I recall my past conversations with mike about the ark story. Once I got into biology and sheer numbers, and the laughable impossibility of the story, he 'glazed over' and just kept repeating how I was sooo wrong, but couldn't respond to anything about it in an intelligent manner. In fact it was lie he couldn't keep a fact or figure in his head that long. Nope, he just relied upon gut instinct; I must be wrong because of course, he is right, and ya can't have both, now canya? Plus, of course I'm the evil one, so ya can't trust me when I state simple, easily verifiable facts...

    ReplyDelete
  58. In fact, looking back on the 'biblical' history of god and jesus, it would appear that god the father is an absolutely horrible problem-solver. Always uses a chainsaw when a scalpel would suffice, that sort of thing. Plus, not very bright. Send your son to die for the sins of others sounds good until you remember who set that system up where such a thing is required. God sent his son, sure, but he definitely didn't have to. So why did he? Plus the way god handled satan is so retarded. To an all-powerful being, the being that created literally everything, including of course satan himself, the whole idea of a rebellion and of god creating hell as an answer, is ludicrous and laughable in the extreme. Why would god have to create hell? When god could simply cure satan? Or hey, wouldn't god have already KNOWN that satan was bad, and planned to rebel against him? No?

Why would god have to jump through hoops? He made all the hoops in the first place. He set up the whole system. It's not like it was a RULE that everyone knew back then that if god wanted to save mankind then (according to the rule) he'd have to send his only son to die for us. Nobody ever heard of that rule before god sent his jesus. That rule was apparently created when god sent jesus, and not before, because hey, god hadn't sent any sons down before. So why create the rule, why create the necessity of sending jesus in the first place? Being all-powerful, surely god could solve ANY problem with a wave of his divine hand, and nothing more. No death or torture of anybody required. If he's all-powerful then he can do that with exactly ZERO effort, because that's what 'all-powerful' means. ZERO effort. If it takes ANY effort, he's not all-powerful.

Pick one, christians. Ya hafta pick one. Is he or isn't he all-powerful? If he is, then the bible is all wet. If he is not, then the bible is all wet.

Not much of a choice. I wonder why there isn't a third option?

Oh yeah, because in fact, the bible is all wet.

Probably whined to his dad about beinng more merciful and all that hippy pussy crap.

Shit, that's severe. DCYF needs to get involved. I think he should get his custody revoked.

  61. Hey, here's how god could have made it so he'd be believed in thousands of years later on by anyone who read the bible:

Genesis 1: The void was deep and complete, but then in the heart of darness lo there was a great light, and copious amounts of hydrogen and other elements came forth from a hole in the void...

...much later on, primitive molecules assembled themselves in the world's oceans and other bodies of water and became more and more complex until they started to act alive, and then grew more complex until they were.

Oh, and by the way, boil your water before drinking it because tiny tiny animals live in it, much too small to see but when they multiply inside of you they can make you sick.

    Amen. So sayeth the Lord.

  62. Such a simple thing for an all-knowing god to do, and yet he didn't do it.

    I wonder why?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Any supposedly omniscient and omnipotent creator deity that choses to reveal his grandeur and glory only to small groups of primitive people thousands of years ago when there was no record-keeping, is immediately suspect.
Any such being would either reveal himself in a way that is apparent to all, or would have designed people differently in the first place so we weren't so damned curious and logical and observation-based, and didn't require ANY proof.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Why didn't god predict one single thing about the future in the bible, I wonder?

Nothing he said, nothing from this superintelligent and all-knowing being, was beyond the technology of the time. Not one single thing.

    ReplyDelete
  65. And just think of it. If he'd warned us about microbes, how many needless deaths and suffering he'd have prevented.

He couldn't do that? Why not? What rule does god have to follow? What rule limits god? Who made that rule? Super-God? God's daddy? Who?

    ReplyDelete
  66. I wonder why god made microbes that infect us and kill us?

Must be to punish the gays somehow.

He surely does love to watch us suffer. I bet he laughed so hard when he made the ebola virus that he spotted his white robe.

  67. Hey Mike, where are you on the coming end of the world this saturday? Are you one of the believers in that, too?
If not, why not? After all, apparently it's in the bible...
    -----------------------------
    Glad you asked.
The Bible teaches clearly that Jesus would come as a thief in the night. Nobody knows when a thief is going to strike. The radio preacher is very confused. First of all Seven is a number of completion… God created heaven and earth and all things in six days and on the seventh he rested from all his labor. There are seven days to a week, seven Sabbath days, seven golden candlesticks, Israel compassed the city of Jericho once a day for six days and on the seventh they compassed it seven times, There are seven angels to the seven Church’s of Asia, Jesus said if a man sin against you seven times in a day forgive him seventy time seven. In one day. One day is as a thousand years and a thousand years are as one day.
Six thousand years will the earth be in existence and on the seven thousandth year I believe it will end.
The problem is nobody knows when that hour will be. Not the angels in heaven nor Jesus Only God the Father of all living knows that day and hour.
The Jewish calendar is not on the same time table as we. I think they are about 35 years or so behind our time slot. So one has to determine which calendar is accurate and in harmony with the scriptures.

Exactly. It's impossible to claim that god had to do it that way, because... because he's frigging god, for chrissakes!
So then, the question is, why did he choose to do it that way?

No good answer that isn't covered in abnormal psych.

Unless of course... god isn't real. That neatly solves the dilemma.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yeah, that figures mike... the only question you choose to answer out of like ten, is the easy one.

Yes, these and many other questions are brought to you by 'questions that mike doesn't dare to ask himself' a division of Cowardice, inc.

You are missing the point Brian, God could have made man or whatever to worship Him with out free will ….but if He did, then He couldn’t receive real praise and worship from something He programmed. That is why freewill is so important. God is worshiped , praised and glorified by them who choose to by way of freewill.

God knew all about satan’s plan…. that is why Jesus was as a lamb slain “BEFORE” the foundation of the world…. It would seem as if satan was playing into Gods plan of redemption now wouldn’t it.

And the fact that we can definitely date, using many different methods that all agree, many, many things as much much older than six thousand years, doesn't phaze you at all, right?
I have a piece of meteorite that is 4.5 billion years old. Now, in it it has a pattern, called the 'widmanstatten pattern.' It is an intergrowth of two iron-based minerals, kamacite and taenite. The pattern is visible when you etch the polished meteorite surface with a weak acid.
We've discovered that the only way to make that pattern is from a molten nickle-iron mixture allowed to cool very, very slowly in nearly zero gravity.
    How slowly?

One degree celsius per one thousand years, approximately.

So in your world, it could only cool six degrees. It's still molten hot then, there on my wooden shelf in my living room.

Nah, that doesn't fly either. Nice try, but you forget that you don't know science.

Rocks that we can prove were once molten, and in their place, as in, not moved to here from elsewhere, are practically ALL a lot older than six thousand years. So they used to be molten lava, then they cooled, and from that point onwards hundreds of thousands of years if not millions in some cases has gone by.

Mike, even if you just learn to judge the effects of erosion accurately, develop a good eye for how long it takes for say, one new inch of soil to get deposited in a typical forest or a typical river bed or whatever, or if you learn to judge how long it takes water to erode soil and then look the fuck around you, you'll see plenty of things that are obviously more than six thousand years old.
I used to be a geology major in college before I switched to bio. I've covered this stuff over and over. Why haven't you taken any courses in it yourself?

    Fear?

That's what it boils down to, no matter what excuse you give me.

And where did god get all the fossils that are all so much older than that, too? From some other planet that was one of his earlier tries? Then why are they RELATED to still-living animals here on earth, mike?

I do not believe Satan has the ability to see into the future nor does he know what the out come of any event will be. Satan is as in the dark as you are….

    ReplyDelete
  83. Incidentally, I want to explain why I used to get so frustrated with you.

Because to me, you are a man trying to answer hard science and hundreds of years of careful observations and data aout the world, by telling me that you know better, and it was all made by fairies.

Now I know to you 'fairies' must sound a lot sillier than 'god.'

    Not to me, though.

So after a while if you were arguing with someone over serious matters and all they kept coming back at you with was 'nope, it was th little fairies' wouldn't it frustrate you eventually? Wouldn't it eventually piss you off and even make you more than a little disappointed in your fellow human there, that was insisting that you were wrong and the correct answer is 'fairies.' I know it would annoy you at the very least.

So stop worshipping the fairies and come over to the side of reason and discussion of serious things, not silly old superstitions that we've long ago outgrown but are still too stupified by to know it yet.

    Stop answering everything with 'fairies.'

    Please? Does asking nicely count?

Dude, yes, of course. OF COOOOOUUUURRRSE!

Listen to me here if you've ever listened to anything.

Put yourself in (I know it sounds bad but hear me out) satan's place.

Did he, or did he not, know that god made him and all the other angels, that god is all-knowing, that god is all-powerful?

Well, be honest, did he? Did he know all of that?

You do, so of course he did! He'd know it even much better than you do!

    Could he have NOT KNOWN?

I don't see how, unless he had an IQ of like sixty-five, and that ain't satan, is it? Satan may be evil, but he's not stupid, is he mike?

Now, if you were even thinking about going up against the Big Cheese, against the very god that created not only you but every single thing else in creation, and you KNEW all that about him, knew that he who made you could un-make you with a wave of his pinky...
Would you 'just go for it' and start the rebellion, mike?

Would you really? Knowing that god will know, that heck, he already knows that you're THINKING about it...

Please answer me this one. If you were satan, would you really be that dumb?

    ReplyDelete

    Nope. Wrong.

Learn some real science, not what they are selling you on right-wing websites, and then try to argue in this area. You're embarassing yourself and you don't even know it.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Plus, even if that were true, all the fossils are definitely related to living animals here today.

And to us, but you refuse to believe that due to your programming of course.

But anyhow, my point is made. I have a 35 million year old fish fossil from the green river in wyoming. They're related to modern fish. So they lived here. God didn't take them from a prior world and use them as building materials.

    ReplyDelete
  88. No doubt Satan knew God knew....
But, Satan does not know what the outcome of his works will be... That is my point.

  89. I would have to question the accuracy of the carbon dating.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Mike, I went to the dominican republic and into the amber mines. I bought insect fossils in amber. That's why I went there. I wrote a magazine article about it all, and it was published in Rock and Gem Magazine. I may not be a scientist, but I do know my shit when it comes to fossils and more than a little about geology.

Now when I was a kid my uncle Al explained to me the mystery of 'the square root.'

Turned out that it was EASY! Since a square has four sides, why then the square root of any number, is four! SIMPLE! I grasped the concept right away! Thanks Uncle Al!

Now mike, I hope you got far enough in math to know how silly that answer was.

However, uncle al is and was then, a multi-millionaire car dealer.

He's a science and math idiot though, but that doesn't stop him from BEING SURE that he absolutely knows all about it. He just has that kind of confidence that transcends evidence and facts. To him.

Please mike... please stop acting like my Uncle Al.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I would have to question the accuracy of the carbon dating.
    ------------
Would I be insulting you if I pointed out that carbon dating is not useful for dating fossils except for 'recent' ones like say, our ancestors within a few hundred thousand years? Try say, uranium isotope dating and many, many other methods, all of which cross-check each other and can even be TESTED.
Dude, sorry, you're just wrong. You've been told a lot of the arguments against this stuff, but they're not good arguments. They are false. You've been misled, and it was easy, because it went along with what you ALREADY BELIEVED.

Sorry. You're just wrong. It hurts to be wrong, I know, but isn't it more painful to not even know it? I'm here to tell you, you need to adjust. Learn from it. Grow. Please.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Actually, Carbon dating is only good to about 70,000 years, plus or minus. Ask Pliny.

    ReplyDelete
  93. But, Satan does not know what the outcome of his works will be...
    ----------------------
Oh okay. As long as you admit that satan knew that god would know about the rebellion even before it happened, would be prepared for it (as if god even had to be!) and would squash it like a bug. As long as you admit that satan knew that, I guess it's okay to say that satan didn't know the outcome.
Just the part about him losing pathetically.

Your version of satan is really, really dumb. Funny thing. I thought he was a pretty smart guy, an ex-angel even. Goes to show you, I guess. Who knew he was 'special?'

    ReplyDelete
  94. Thanks ed. Oddly enough I was thinking that my guess there was a bit long. However I also figured that it woudn't matter.

The poit being, they don't even USE carbon dating for old fossils like I'm talking about. I've got sixty-five million year old ammonites and other fossils (belemnites) much older than that. They use other dating methods and strata dating, using other index fossils. All of which MAKES SENSE. And all of which cross-checks.

TO deny it, is to deny reality. It's like denying that the sun is really hot.

Because of the fairies of course. They cool it down with their tears.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Mike, how are you with big numbers?

    Can you visualize six thousand?

Sixty thousand? Six hundred thousand? Six million?

When I hear 'sixty thousand years ago' I think 'gee, pretty recent.'

    What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  96. So mike, what was satan's plan then? To surprise god and then what? To kill him off? To imprison him?

What could even satan do, against your god, really?

Could satan kill your god? If yes, remove checkmark from 'all-powerful' space. If satan could imprison your god, same thing. If satan could even surprise your god, remove checkmark from 'all-knowing' space.

So grab your number two pencil...

    ReplyDelete
  97. Now thanks to mike I finally understand why satan chose to rebel against an all-powerful and all-knowing god.

Satan was the first special-needs angel. Satan was the 'divine simpleton.' Heaven's 'court jester.' God's fool.

Thanks, mike. That helps me out a lot in my grasp of scripture.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Mike, do you believe in arithmatic?

    Let's try that.

We've been hiking the Grand Canyon for well over two hundred years.

According to you, it can't be over six thousand years old, right?

So we know that it was 'dug' by the Rio Grande. A river eroded a trench over a mile deep.

In less than six thousand years, of course.

    Now comes the math.

We've 'known' the Grand Canyon for two centuries. It's a mile deep now. It was also pretty much the same two centuries ago. No significant difference. We know this from detailed records from many sources.

If a river cuts a trench a mile deep in six thousand years, that means it cuts it at the rate of 0.88 feet per year. 0.88 nfeet deeper each year.
So then, in two hundred years it should have, according to YOU, have gotten 176 feet deeper!

    WOW! THAT'S A LOT!

    And has it?

    Um, nope. Barely different.

    Let's go another way...

We gemologists know that the crystallization of many gem minerals such as topaz or quartz occurs at a very slow rate. We can calculate the rate. We can OBSERVE it directly and MEASURE it directly.
So when we run across a topaz crystal or a quartz crystal that is more than a yard across, we can do the math and determine that it took over a hundred thousand years for that single crystal to form.

This is EASY. And no need for carbon dating here. Just arithmatic.

So mike, are you prepared to insist here that you do not believe in math? I just chose only TWO cases, but I can think of hundreds more, and I'm not even exaggerating.

So how about it? Ready to give up on math for jesus?

    ReplyDelete
  99. Um, arithmetic. Oops. I know better. Getting tired.

of course, though, if they read the Bible, they'd understand that Jesus told us no one knows the time, not even the Son.

However, if Jesus' second coming is anywhere near soon, I wouldn't be surprised.

I wouldn't be having any parties, I can safely say. I'd be doing my daily duty with my children and hope to be found to be "fruitful".

I live my life assuming it could happen at any time and my spirit should be ready and, hopefully, worthy of His presence.

We'll be going to eve Mass and then off for some bike riding on the trail...

I don't mind you picking nits. That way, less fleas.

  106. Also, the end of the world will follow afterwards, no? I seem to recall that it is supposed to begin not with the rapture but with worldwide earthquakes. On saturday. Earthquakes.

    ReplyDelete
  107. First off, there are abundant transition forms found in the fossil record. All one need do is study a paleontology text with 1/10 the zeal reserved for Bible study and that would be evident. But fossils in many respects are not where the real hard facts reside. It's in our genes. Genetic markers tell a far better story of the sequence of evolution and the timing of transitions. And the data is unassailable. It just is. he methods used to determine species relationships aren't even that hard to understand. It only takes a willingness to follow the evidence without bias and pick up a book not on a Fox recommended reading list.

At this juncture in history it is impossible to have any real working knowledge of biology and discount evolution. It's not faith, it's not belief, it just is.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Totally agree with you pliny but I was selecting things that I thought he could grasp with minimal science fluency.

He replied with the standard christian talking point about carbon dating, and so I wanted to show him that such dating methods aren't even necessary to see how old the planet is. You can just use your eyes. But you need your brain on line too.

Crystal growth is a fucking clock. It just is. I've seen topaz crystals in tucson and in museaums that are so huge, and so they too ka very very long time to form. Estimated in the hundreds of thousands of years, or even more in some cases. The average age of the diamond on a typical woman's finger is about two billion years.

Plus I wanted to illustrate erosion and basic geology and how obvious it is that the world is much much older than 6k years if you just know about that and only that, and look around. All you need are your eyes. No tests or instruments required.

    ReplyDelete
  109. The way I have heard about this personality called satan, or the devil is it has only the power to contact with one person at a time. 7 billion strong we are, wonder how it is supposed to get with each individual? There is no such thing but the story has many snowed, and the myth goes on, and on. Wonder if people need this crutch to blame for their sinful deeds. Just another Christian cop out.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I once tried to explain to MI I think, or maybe it was observant, the idea that in a compost heap, the oldest stuff is always at the bottom, trying to get across the idea that when you dig anywhere in the world, you go back in time the deeper you go. The geologic column.

It proved absolutely impossible. I couldn't believe it. It's such a simple concept, and it was like I was trying to explain the krebbs cycle to them.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I mean, the idea that as you go down the walls of the grand canyon you can expect to see older and older fossils in them, was totally foreign and impossible for them to grasp. They treated me as if I was making it up out of whole cloth. So I tried a compost heap as an example. Still nothing.

    Amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  112. And the fossilization process itself, when it's silica rather than calcite replacement, takes many thousands of years. Like as in petrified wood. Agatized. Cell-by-cell organic material replacement with quartz.

So the christians all jump on the calcite process as proof that all fossilization processes are as fast. When even that one can take thousands of years in some cases.

    ReplyDelete
  113. The way I have heard about this personality called satan, or the devil is it has only the power to contact with one person at a time.
    -------------
First time I've heard that one, Jerry.

Like as in, pastors for example.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Maybe if I had tried a stac of money. You put a brand new bill on top of the stack every year, so where would you expect to find the oldest dated bill?

  115. We can sample the air in bubbles in amber from 15 million years ago and we can analyse it (and we have) and have found out that the very mixture of oxygen and nitrogen and all the other gasses was different back then.
Then we can also look at the many different types of insects that can be found entombed in amber.

There is NOT ONE OF THEM that is still 'walking the earth' today. They are all extinct species, every single one.

It is estimated that the average 'lifespan' of an insect species is three to five million years.

So, where are they now, is the salient question.

    ReplyDelete
  116. In fact worldwide this is a problem for christians. All fossils are of creatures that are today, extinct, with a few very recent exceptions here and there.

But what am I thinking here? These are the people that think adam and even rode around on apatosaurs.

How do you KNOW this guy is not right? The FACT is you do not, any more than I KNOW he is right. But right away you are condemning him to being wrong because he disagrees with your beliefs. Not only do you disagree with him, but you call him an idiot. (according to Webster the meaning of idiot is; a person of the lowest order in a former classification of mental retardation having a mental age of less than 3 years and an IQ under 25) That is called a lack of humility. This approach by anyone leads to a type of shallowness that is not compatible with the teachings of Jesus, but it is in agreement with main stream Christianity. Perhaps you would be so good as to explain to me the difference between your absolute KNOWING that the bible is the word of god, or knowing god even exist, and the atheist absolute KNOWING there is no god. Seems like the same stick your head in the sand in either case. Please enlighten me here.

    ReplyDelete

I LOVE the position that the Rep. Senators are in. Vote FOR Ryan budget and show that you have no heart, don't vote for it and show that you're scared to show the people that you have no heart.

  123. Mike, I think Jerry was talking about your opinion of Bart Ehrman, not Harold Camping there.

It's a no-brainer for Christians to say that Camping is an idiot, and you'll get no disagreement from the atheists there, either. You're attacking the wrong target.

Yeah, that is pretty funny. He thought you were talking about that fundy apocalypse idiot instead of the man that wrote the book about the bible being forged.

And how is that an answer either?

Are you reading the question? Are you even on the right blog?

Dude, focus. The question has to do with comparing the man who wrote the book saying the bible is filled with forgeries with YOU. Or rather, you with atheists in general. And about how you are so sure, when they are too.
We've been here before, and you've never had a real answer. You just 'know' you're right. Or maybe your imaginary friend tells you so.
Same with a lot of other religious people too, you're nothing special. You're all sure, and you all disagree. You all can't be right, but not one of you is capable of believing that they're wrong. How silly it looks from outside the delusion.

    ReplyDelete
  128. "It was not uncommon for someone else to pen down words of a writer.."

If you listen to the guy, the Bible historian, who is also a 'Biblical times' historian, he also explains that it WAS uncommon for someone else to pen down someone elses words.

This idea that there were 'men of letters for hire' in those times is pure anachronism, harking back from the monks in the dark ages copying the Bible.

Only wealthy men could read, write and compose this kind of stuff, so the truth is that you are willing to LIE for your religion and accuse scholars of LYING against your religion.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Observant doesn't know that he's a lot more like that doomsday prophet than he realizes.

Both of them are absolutely sure that they are right, and both of them are so very wrong. And both of them are that way because of the silliness of their religion. Sure Mike doesn't happen to believe that the world is ending tomorrow, but he does believe in a lot of other things that that guy does, oh yes he does. I'm sure there's huge overlap. Both of them have made the bible their god. That's the most noticeable similarity to me.

Of course mike's REALLY sure. Yeah, that's it.

I'm not seeing that much difference.

    Looks like the rapture ruptured.

Wonder what's going through Harold camping's mind right about now.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in his ministry today...

Wonder what those people who spent their id's college money on his billboards feel.

Probably in denial. Believers have a hard time realizing they're wrong even in the face of absolute proof.

So I wonder when his NEXT date when the world will end will be, is I guess my point. Along with the inevitable excuse about how he slipped a digit in his calculations, and how it's really REALLY definite this time, you'll see...

    ReplyDelete
  136. I was listening to his rationale... the other day I read an interview where he explains that the rapture will not only happen at 6pm, but at 6pm as it first occurs in each time zone on earth, a 'rolling blackout' if you will, of rapture and earthquake, progressing around the globe.

Right there, that's what should have alerted even the stupidest follower that it was malarky. Why would god insist on adhering to time zones, and selectively rapture and destroy the earth in segments as each part reached 6pm? So stupid.

And he has a lot of followers, this dipshit. A lot. Tens of thousands. Around the world. In the phillipines, the hmmong were trying to use the rapture as an excuse to start a hmong ingdom on earth or something like that... Plus all the parents spending their kids tuition money, while even telling their children (the ones that don't believe it) that they're going to hell and they'll miss them when they're up there in heaven... so kids get to hear their parents tell them that A. They love god a lot more than they do them, and B. That the kid is damned and will be in hell in a few days while the parent is saved.

I wonder if any of camping's followers will kill themselves?

They haven't left themselves many other options. Spent all their money on billboards in iraq etc.

One of them said this morning that even though it hadn't started yet he believes the real start time will be 6pmEST.

Almost three hours ago. So now he's probably believing that it'll hit at 6pm west coast time. And after that happens, what, hawaii time?

They want ti to be real so badly they've convinced themselves it is.

Just lie every other christian. Just going a bit further.

I love it how some of the journalists and bloggers out there are having a field day making fun of camping and his prediction, but they tend to say some variety of 'I mean, I know that Jesus is coming back; just not on the 21st...'

Which makes them look almost as stupid as he is.

    ReplyDelete
  139. All those people that really truly believed that today was the end of the world and had relatives who did not, all believed that their relatives, kids, friends, whatever, will be left behind and will die horribly and go to hell.
And they're still keen to go. Not a problem apparently. One of them said recently 'noah had to leave friends and relatives behind and he knew that it was to be expected...'
So these soul-less people want to go to heaven and be happy forever, and the fact that their son or daughter or mother or father or wife or husband is left behind to the horrors of the apocalypse.... but they can still be happy. Cause they're in heaven, after all.

People can only be this unloving and cold when their whole system of morality, their very 'moral comnpass' is totally false.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I was thinking there, of course, Brian, about the fact that everything is processes, especially 'thing's' like minds.

The conclusion that Christians come to that there is a 'great' mind behind everything including time and space, ignores the fact that everything is processes through time and in space.

Christians(theists) will avoid this for as long as they can. "Who says God is outside of time and space, I don't understand.", kind of thing.

Same thing with witches and that, "Where does it say that we should not 'suffer a witch to live'.", "Let me look up my Bible to see what it says.", "Oh MY Bible talks about a sorceress...", then they get to digress away about how sorceresses are evil and so on and misusing the power of revelation and such.

So, simply, if God created the Universe, time, space and the whole thing, this puts HIM outside time and space.

We can try to waffle around this by saying that since living, and thinking that we do are only analogous or metaphoric to what God does, we're just playing a word-game because God 'doing' anything or 'thinking' anything would be a process just like it is to us.

Jerry does the same thing, poo-pooing what I'm saying about 'loving'(the different processes of how we use that term) and 'a thing called love'.

It drivels down to, "We all know the 'thing called love' and, of course I can't 'show you'(rolls eyes), perhaps you're just too dense to know!!" (blame the pigeon).

The other way is a definition game. Simply define God AS living outside of time and space as if we could decree that kind of thing. "What do you mean it makes no sense, we decreed that that's how it is so we're 'past' even thinking about it now, problem not solved, problem circumvented!"

    ReplyDelete
  145. pBoy - this notion of thought being linked to time is something I tried posting about before. I agree with you that any model of thought must be linked in some way with a passage of time and that must be in one direction. Thought is a process requiring inputs, involving analysis then synthesis. These processes only make sense in the context of time as a frame of reference. otherwise it's just gobbledyggoop.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Thought is a process requiring inputs, involving analysis then synthesis.
    -------------
Once read this book, cryptozoic by brian aldiss I think...

Time actually flowed backwards all the time but we perceived it in reverse, so that was what made sense to us. So we all came together and formed ourselves out of various trace chemicals and bacteria and worms and whatever and then they dug us up out of the graves. Then we got progressively younger, eventually finding our eventual ending in the dissolution of the womb. And he made it sound plausible somehow.
Because our goals, such as synthesis and analysis, are only our goals because we perceive time flowing as it does. If we perceived it in reverse (something physicists still can't find a reason for us NOT being able to do) all our logic would be reversed as well, and our conclusions would always flow quite naturally toward their initial premises and conception as an idea, instead of the opposite...............

    ReplyDelete
  147. An airplane.

An airplane sits in pieces rotting in a junkyard. Eventually the rust diminishes and the pieces are moved onto a truck and taken to a hangar. Then people assemble them into a working plane, by de-cutting rather than welding, moving in what we would think of as reverse. The process is identical in both directions, except that it only makes sense to us in one. Because cause and effect are how we see things, but effect and cause can work as well. Only our minds move in a direction.

Sounds mystical and seems to make sense, sort-of. Too counterintuitive to be sure of course. Hard to think that much out of the box.

All explosions begin as a cloud of differentiated materials and progress violently toward a point-source, eventually assembling the appropriate ending substance, a bar of plastique for instance.

So where did the plastique residue 'come from?' In that unniverse, the question makes no sense. IN that universe, everything flows from results to cause. That is what is natural. So future substances like plastique, assemble themselves from appropriate clouds of debris that can be seen to assemble themselves out of appropriate chemicals that no-one suspected were lying about.

(I believe none of this, btw. Mental masturbation. Give pliny and peeb something to get riled about)

    ReplyDelete
  148. Yea well Pliny, it's kind of obvious really, isn't it?

And no Brian, reversing entropy doesn't 'sound' like something scientists are saying is 'six of one and half a dozen of the other'.

How did I, for example come out of the grave or the crematorium, knowing everything that I learned then proceed to unlearn it?

I'm not keen on Dr.Who's 'timey-wimey bits explanation either though I did like the 'ultimate' joke, where his future wife, who he doesn't know yet as his wife explained to him that the TARDIS only makes that noise 'cos he forgets to take the brake off!

Wonder if theists like to use the old, maybe time is going backwards like that episode in Red Dwarf, 'defense'?

I fail to see how we're supposed to be thinking backwards which is forwards 'cos we just 'think that way' without imagining minds to be somewhat more mysterious than theists think it is even.

Unreading a book? That makes no sense no matter which 'direction' what is going, does it?

    ReplyDelete
  149. Yeah, I went to poop for my disproof.

You poop, and it falls to the ground.

And so in reverse it goes up into well, you.

And yet what is holding you down to the earht while it's happening?

Gravity can't work in two ways, can it? Up and down?

Lie I said, it was just an amusing concept in a book.

    ReplyDelete
  150. So cars, planes and boats unburning gas and so on didn't bother you at all?

    Stars 'unshining'?

We'd just 'know' what we're looking at as the photons zoom out of our retinae through the lens and onto the object in 'view'?

Seems to me that the theist's metaphors and analogies are in place in order to mystify with words, perhaps imagining some other 'kind' of time for God to think and act or to leave it as 'something we could never imagine' being such tiny brained 'mortals'.

For sure they'd claim that God knows, and they being God's confidants in a mysteriously guided way would know if their imaginings were total bullshit or not.

But this is similar to their logic when it comes to other gods, those poor fools saw, or see the 'great mystery' stlightly wrong is all, while we see the obvious pot-calling-kettle-black wrongness of it.

I was reading the Conservapedia's ghastly entry for 'atheism' and it was still a bit of a surprise to read that atheists are, apparently a 'dying breed', fat, suicidal and of course sadly delusional with respect to there being no gods, if they don't simply hate God that is.

And we wonder why it is that a segment of society is deeply, yet covertly racist beyond reason when it comes to President Obama?

"Why Jesus was a whiteboy who wore Roman toga and had his boys write down what happened. Yea, that's what happened."

Fuckin' Mike and his total myth that 'it is commonly known that everyone and his dog had secretaries scribbling down private conversations and prayers and such in them days, 'cos that's the way we can believe this total nonsense!'

    ReplyDelete
  151. They've been conditioned to just naturally fight a disinformation war. Like pravda.
If they say we're a dying breed etc., often enough, it becomes true. At least in their minds. Because that's how their god becomes true to them as well. Repetition of the lie to themselves.

  168. On the show "Morning Joe" this morning, the woman laments that the public aren't willing to be fooled into thinking that flushing Medicare down the toilet is actually 'empowering Grandma' by forcing her to deal with 'for profit' insurance companies.

This is typical faux free market capitalism. Give grandma a few bucks from the government, sure. Just don't 'really' give it to her, give her a choice of which 'for profit' insurance company to be ripped off by!!!

Then there's their schooling deal. Sure, give parents government money. Just as long as they can only use it to buy schooling from 'for profit' schools.

And, sure, give students government loans, just so long as they're using them to attend 'for profit' universities!

This is why we never hear much from the right about the defense budget, that money goes to 'for profit' manufacturers.

The upshot of this kind of co-pay deal is that only kids of well off parents will have the opportunity to go to good schools, only well off old people will get decent health care, and even then tax money will be being funneled to 'for profit' organizations.

Similarly Christians don't mind taxes being spent on Faith-based initiatives, being spent to encourage their clients to feel obliged to Christian organizations.

This all reminds me of my aquaintance John, a used car dealer, who scoffs at the poor, the old and the sick, imagining that taxes aren't meant for them no, they're meant for HIM!

Seriously, he has a hobby farm and has no qualms about accepting cheques from the government for that, and before he had 'worked hard' and sold enough $200 junkers for $2000, he was very happy for the government to give HIM a welfare cheque TOO!

Seems to me that it is very disingenuous of the Christian right to throw their lot in with people who worship nothing but money!

And what was the caught on camera, "Talk to ya later.", moment between Clinton and Ryan about?

Are the Dems considering throwing the aging voters under the bus too?

Recall Obama didn't end the 'war on terror' yet. He didn't end the Bush tax cuts. They're still 'figuring out' Medicare 'reforms' and they're not holding Republicans responsible for blaming the elderly for the budget and NOT blaming low taxes on the very wealthy, negative taxes on the largest, wealthiest corporations, and on and on.

The entire government seems to be one giant conspiracy against the people who vote and their wishes.

When the right is in they get to railroad over everyone then when the Democrats get in(I'm not calling them left, no way), it's blockers on just about everything time.

I think that they believe old people are stupid because they tend to swallow the right's lies easily, but as that latest vote showed even registered Republicans aren't willing to swallow this.

Still, it wasn't exactly a land-slide, was it? Seems a lot of voters ARE willing to throw aging people under the bus!

They're destroying it. It is an entitlement program now, and to change that aspect of it is to change its very core. That is the reason that it works so well. Less waste by far than other programs... The ryan plan asks seniors to SHOP FOR INSURANCE on the OPEN MARKET with a VOUCHER or coupon, that only covers a portion of the expense, a SMALL portion. So grandma is actually and almost literally being thrown over a cliff. No, really, she is, and you're too stupid to see it.

  179. One of the ways I use to decide about an issue is to follow the money. Politicians and business guys lie all the time but the money never does. Who stands to profit is more powerful than ideology.

In the case of privatization of Medicare and Social Security, in place of inefficient bureaucracy we’d send the money to Wall Street investment houses and the big insurers - makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, how about you?

Yes, Medicaid pools are expanding. Hardly a surprise in this economy and faced with the fact that they cannot afford coverage from the same people the Repubs want to hand the ball to.

Oh and on the moral superiority of believers? Last time I checked no agnostic group changed the age limits for pedophilia and blamed the 60’s for their crimes, in an effort to once again excuse the inexcusable. Personally. I’d like to see the Catholic Church prosecuted under RICO for a criminal enterprise.

Nor has any atheist group bilked a bunch of saps out of their money in pursuit of nonexistent raptures.

I could go on and on but there are character limits on posts.

  180. Hey MI. Not sure how you could imagine that copy/pasting the Republican spin on this 'here', is designed for anything other than a hoped for 'outraged response'.

I stood to lose nothing, being over 55 myself, if I were a U.S. citizen but I can see that many hard working people deserve more than the promise of a voucher.

This is similar to every Republican spin on every government program where tax money would end up going to people who could afford to do without it.

FUTURE old people(everyone is getting old) will get thrown under the bus while those responsible for doing it have a free government golden health package.

This 'demagoguery' is what Republicans did squalking to the elderly that the Democrats are gutting their programs, while it is the Republicans intention all along to gut these same programs.

The Republicans are saying, "Look old people, anyone over 55 is safe! You can safely throw the younger folk under the bus! YOU(already old folk) are 'alright Jack!'"

YIKES MI! You don't imagine that we're the least bit surprised that this is how you feel, do you?

  181. MI's okay with the elderly going on the open insurance parket and having to SHOP for a plan that will cover them, and of course insurance companies are just lining up to insure the elderly who have most of the health pproblems. Two days in the hospital and goodbye voucher and then grandma's on her own.
Plus, MI lies the idea that the government, instead of giving money to health providers like hospitals and doctors directly in payment of care, will instead be giving the money to insurance companies. Oh, and plus taking away pell grants and cutting education, getting rid of the department of education itself, and taking whatever money saved and giving it away to the top earners in the form of tax breaks.

MI, when someone says 'we must balance the budget' and then takes tax increases OFF THE TABLE, right there, right there, we can dismiss them as not serious at all. That, is a joke.

The wealthy have to pay their fair share, and they're not even close. The poor and the middle class are paying waaaay more than their fair share. The wealth has already been redistributed by the reps UPWARD to the rich, and away from those that actually need some of it just to survive.

It's sad that people like MI can get it so wrong, just because instead of thinking all she's capable of is parroting talking points as if she had a brain, while voting against her own self-interests.

  182. Remember in the movie "Dave" when Dave was in a staff meeting as the president and had re-done the budget so that a children's home would continue to get funding? Some republican-type objected to the cut to his pet program and President Dave said to him 'fine, you wanna tell those children that they have no home now because you needed the money?' and the guy backed right down?

In today's world the republican would have just grinned and said 'sure! not a problem for me!' And it really wouldn't have been.

    No hearts.

  183. In a recent town hall meeting some republican was taling with an elderly woman in the audience. She said that the government won't take care of her and her old job doesn't offer health care, so what can she do?
    The response?
THe guy ACTUALLY SAID "Do you hear yourself? DO you hear yourself? It's a difference of opinion. You say the government won't take care of you and your employer won't take care of you... WHEN AM I GOING TO START TO TAKE CARE OF MYSELF?!"
So basically, it's on you lady, so shut up and die already. Or get a job, you lazy liberal granny..

  184. Now let's see...
Government gives money to doctor in direct payment for grandma's chemo...

    Or...

Government gives money to for-profit insurance company which takes its profit, AND THEN MAYBE pays the doctor for grandma's chemo. Or at least, part of it. Until the voucher is used up.

Nice, MI. Just wondering, at what age did you lose your soul?

    ReplyDelete
  185. Ryan claims it 'empowers grandma' to choose and thus to 'punish' any insurance company that isn't 'competetive enough.'

    WHAT?

LOSING grandma means MORE profit for the insurance company, because grandma's chemo is fucking EXPENSIVE.

They're dying to drop her. They'd love it if the most ill of the elderly 'punished' them by dropping out of their plan.

Oh, what am I thinking? Grandma has a voucher. So when that runs out she's paying ever-higher rates as her costs go up, since thats what insurance companies do. Raise their rates. Constantly.

Oh, and plus, the Donut Hole would return. Immediate costs to seniors TODAY.

Nicely done, Mr. Ryan. Or should I say, SATAN?

  186. In my honest opinion, this libertarian desire to always cut taxes, to not pay one's fair share, is unpatriotic.
But then again, of course it is. Libertarians want to starve the government. Some silly notion that if you feed it less it will shrink! As if... It'll just borrow more...
So of course it's unpatriotic, because they are not patriots. A patriot is one that not only loves their country, but is willing to support it.

Libertarian republicans are the real slackers. And greedy? Cheap bastards want to see us go back to 1910.

  187. If something along these lines gets passed and there are no long-term care facilities availabe anymore due to lack of funding, I guess it's time to tell old folk that their only real option is to go and shoot whoever they feel is responsible.

Then they'll be assured either euthanasia or long term care by prison authorities.

Not a good option, since it's not working well for the mentally ill!

    Thanks for THAT Ronald Reagan.

On Sarah-baby, we can see that she imagines a 'job well done' if she can win against Obama. There is no ideology there unless it's 'whatever Obama does is wrong'.

If she gets in, she'll be left wondering what Obama would have done and doing the opposite of THAT!

Not a good way to run a country at all.

  188. In Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand (the libertarian goddess) labels those who live off of social programs, such as the elderly and the unemployed, as parasites.

Parasites. Grandma, you're a parasite? Who knew?

So in that light it becomes easy to understand the Ryan Budget. It's the nice clean white people (and a few tokens) against the parasite-loving liberals who for some reason can't understand the necessity of their grandmother not CONTRIBUTING financially to society at age 93.

  189. Jerry, open your eyes and be careful to observe the world around you. If you cannot see it after more than 2 years of it, you must have your head in the sand.

That actually goes for the rest of you lamestream media zombies.

You're being scammed by your own politicians and refuse to think for yourselves.

    That's scary.

Floyd, I didn't cut and paste anything. What weed are you on?

Oh, btw: tornadoes heading toward New England..... hmm.

    Brace yourselves.

I'll be praying for you and for everyone in the tornadoes' paths.

Take care. And, don't get too, too dizzy spinning in your eternal circuitous circles ;)

  190. ACTUAL QUOTE:

A Woodall constituent raised a practical obstacle to obtaining coverage in the private market within the confines of an employer-based health insurance system: What happens when you retire?

"The private corporation that I retired from does not give medical benefits to retirees," the woman told the congressman in video captured a local Patch reporter in Dacula, Ga.

"Hear yourself, ma'am. Hear yourself," Woodall told the woman. "You want the government to take care of you, because your employer decided not to take care of you. My question is, 'When do I decide I'm going to take care of me?'"
