Hello.

Hello everybody, or whoever is left out there that still 'tunes in' every now and then.

It's been a lot of fun, and you apparently can live in the past, can't you?

My interests lie elsewhere, but some of them are still here.

It's been a good run, so why stop it now.? I love you all, so why say goodbye.?

Brian.

    1. Actually no B. Typically what I've been doing is create a half dozen or so panels when I'm free and then schedule them for about 2 weeks in advance. (I have an image library I created to allow me to get a panel done in about 10 minutes.) If something breaks, I change up the order. Also the multiple panels on quantum effects was spurred by a battle going on between Jerry Coyne and Deepak Chopra and a neurosurgeon who promotes biocentrism.

  6. Well, of course we can live in the past...didn't Jethro Tull tell us that in 1969? :-) Hey, I'm still here...AWOL for a bit due to hubs continuing health stuff, out of hospital now though and doing good. :-) Brian, thanks for the link, Ian that pup IS adorable, and Pliny your pictorial is great, loved the tribute to SBTG. LOL It's a little strange that the Frankenblog has distinct "resurrection" qualities to it, no? Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I'm having a new experience...my oldest son, Sam is 34 and over the last year has been developing a really solid relationship with a woman 5 years older than him. She's beautiful, kind, funny, smart....I love that he has found someone. Upshot? Me that has had no grandkids suddenly find myself with a 16 year old and a 7 year old! LOL It's been a slow introduction since they were making sure this WAS solid so as not to screw up the kids, so now it's a full involvement thing. It's great, super sweet kids, they love Sam and he them. To have these kids suddenly throwing arms around us and wanting to come visit all the time is awesome.
Brian, I had another experience (or a "woo" as pliny and Ian may call it :-) ) The day before Den (husband) was admitted to the hospital, he was really fine. But I was full of foreboding all day long. I kept thinking "something is really wrong, something bad" but I didn't know what, and I didn't think it was him...just "something." It felt like I was just waiting to find out what what going to hit. The next day, he ended up in the ER with a systemic infection that was really bad. It hit him at work, and he thought he had appendicitis...this sudden onset unbearable pain. He was admitted right from the ER and had 4 days of IV antibiotics. So, did I foresee? Why did I know something was wrong? Was he giving off symptoms that I picked up on and didn't recognize at the time? I didn't think so because he seemed so well. Feels like a "woo" to me. :-)

  7. A couple of hours ago I finished reading a trashy sword and sorcery novel (yes, I like such escapist stuff) in which one of the protagonists had as a 'special power' the ability to slow down time in battle. To see everybody moving slowly, that sort of thing. So it finished, the sequel not out yet, so I looked for another one, another sword and sorcery novel from a search. I find one with good ratings (I'm shopping on a Kindle here), the first book in a series, and read the sample, like it, and buy it.
So in the second novel I start to read, the young protagonist seems to have the ability to use a sword really well, naturally... he's very fast.
Right there, I knew. He could also slow down time in the same way as the other guy from the other novel. Reading on of course confirmed it.

    1. Serious question....is the light in your head there for this type of thing? It seems like one of your "lesser" experiences, probably doesn't make you startle or anything by comparison to the big weird things that happen to you..is it just a quiet knowing without the light, or is it the same intensity for you as the other stuff?

    2. I don't think so. I wasn't thinking about it or noticing it before or while it was happening. I was just reading.

I could have picked that up without knowing exactly what it was...just that something different (ominous, too) was "in the air."

  11. We have a doll stuck to the bathroom mirror, 'Party Animal' on her tee-shirt and a bottle of some good stuff in one hand.
Prettyboy Floyd used to park on her head in the morning, that was one of his other 'selves' he used, to maintain his birditude(or like that, what do I know?)
Anyways, we'd go in there and chide him for humping Party Animal, "Silly boy, silly bird."
Just now I noticed that her pants looked droopy and upon further inspection, pulling up her tee-shirt, her pants were below her bum!
I'm starting to think that Party Animal was to blame for Prettyboy's indiscretion!

I never imagined that this doll actually had separate clothes on, actually had a bum and what looks like a belly button. REALLY? On a stick-to-a-mirror doll.

Anyways, guess that's my eulogy for my bird, may he be in birdy heaven now.

So now that Mandela's dead and can't rebut idiots on the right, Rick Santorum is out there claiming that Mandela's fight against Apartheid is a lot like the republican party's fight against Obamacare.

    No, really.

It is amazing to me how very blatantly hypocritical these fucking idiots get while attempting to wrap up their stink in someone or something that is actually good. Gandhi, King, Mandela, Jesus Christ... anybody that is or was perceived to be a good person... or the flag, or their religion since that's perceived by many to be automatically a good thing... no hypocrisy is too deep for these numbskulls to dive in head first.
It is interesting, since they must by definition know that Mandela was a good man, but they can't seem to see *why* he was a good man.
Every goddam thing under the sun is a talking point to these idiots.

  14. A couple of quotes that I think apply well to Republicans...

“The evil within one’s self usually poses as the good as well. It has truly been said that ‘the road to hell is paved with good intentions.’ –The paving stones are more often the good intentions we carry out than those we do not.
The human mind is capable of incredible subtlety in the dodging of the facing of its own iniquity, though if one is very self-observant one can sometimes detect the qlippoth (demons) within through the manifestation within one’s self of any strong irrational dislike. The hidden maggots of one’s own soul are usually projected in righteous indignation upon others. The beam in another’s eye is usually the reflection of the mote in one’s own. (…)”
-Gareth Knight, ‘A Precise Guide to Qabalistic Symbolism’

"The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness."
    - Kenneth Galbraith

And this one, I really like:

"I love the evil man who knows that he is evil more than the righteous man that knows he is righteous. Of the evil people that consider themselves righteous, however, the following is said: "They do not even turn away at the threshold of the underworld." For they imagine that they are being led to hell in order to redeem the souls there.
    -Tales of the Chassidim

  15. Even if you're a stupid evil cunt, you still have to rationalize it, I suppose.
Who wants to wake up in the morning, look their face in the mirror and think, "I'm a stupid evil cunt."
So they rationalize. Sadly other stupid people believe them.

  16. I did hear one of the right wing think tank boys rationalizing setting up a factory in destitute places to take advantage of the slave wages they can get away with paying. He said that he thought that the factory owners were doing those people a favor.
He explained that when the people organized and tried to get a living wage for their work, their work was done and they could ship their factory to some other destitute town to take advantage of their poorest people.
Of course he explained all this with a smirk on his face, that same smirk that those oh-so-smart bankers with the 160 I.Q.s have when they look down their noses at anyone trying to cut them off of their disingenuous money shuffling which turns the public's money into their money. Legalized stealing, nothing more or less.
That same smirk that Mitt Romney has because he knows full well that when he buys a company and splits it up or sells it off in chunks he's the one who is going to be pocketting the pension fund that the workers had bargained for over their years working there.
How can they look themselves in the face in the morning? Sitting on a pile of what was supposed to be other people's money.

That reminds me of my old point about the Rebellion in Heaven:
So, Lucifer is very, very proud. (Wonder why God made him that way?) And so he plans a rebellion, an attempt to overthrow God. (And God doesn't have a clue that this is happening) So then he fails and is cast down. He never expected that, I guess. I mean, it was only God he went up against.
    So he's what, exactly?
    Can you say STUPID?
I didn't think that Lucifer, the highest of all angels, was a dunce like that.
Or hey, how about later on in the OT when Lucifer decides to GAMBLE with an omniscient, omnipotent being?
He's sure dense, that little devil...

  31. I was having a chat with Brent on Facebook about this. He's a school principal.
I didn't rant at him, but he was sort of couching his comments over to his side of the argument and I was couching my comments away.
Why does he believe that Judas did this?
    Easy.
Judas must have done this because he, Brent, believes all the other stuff the Gospels say, so how could he not have done it. Judas was just a spy for the Sanhedrin all the time.
He didn't even notice that he hadn't put the slightest dent in my argument which was, as you point out, that surely seeing is believing, and Judas had a front row seat as to whether Jesus was the real thing or no.
I think it says a lot about the truth of the Gospels if Jesus couldn't convince someone who was following him around watching him perform.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You have to master the skill of double think. God is good, God is all powerful, all knowing, created everything in the universe and loves his creation above all....on the other hand, that means he also created Satan, whom he has trouble defeating, a constant struggle against his own evil implanted in his world. Satan has the power to lure Gods people away from him, and God doesn't have the power to stop this. Or he does, but he's enjoying the game of demanding people choose sides and sending his "loved ones" into eternal hell if need be. Everything God creates is perfect...if you put aside those diseases, human cruelty, enviornmental devastations. Those are horrible things for people to deal with, but it's just God's mysterious way to see if you will still love him while you are suffering everything he has thrown at you. God is either impotent to protect and love his people, or he has a sadistic game playing streak. "Love and obey me or I release the Krackens". " Ooops, I do love and obey you and you release the Krackens anyway." "That's just to see if you will still love me even though I fuck with you."

    ReplyDelete
  33. "And by the way, you were born sinful....I wanted you to start out already pegged as evil so that you can try to work your way out of it. I made you KNOWING that you were not going to love me, and that I could punish you for it. Good luck with that....."

  34. OOO!
    Here's one of my favorites!
In the OT Moses was charged by God to set the Israelites free. So he goes to Pharaoh and asks or something. Here's the kicker: At that point, God *hardened Pharaoh's heart" so that Pharaoh didn't just let them fucking go. You see, God wanted to send some plagues and show off.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why does he believe that Judas did this?
    Easy.
Judas must have done this because he, Brent, believes all the other stuff the Gospels say, so how could he not have done it. Judas was just a spy for the Sanhedrin all the time.
He didn't even notice that he hadn't put the slightest dent in my argument (...)
    --------------------------
It's tough being a believer and dealing with logical thought. I mean, you're *certain.* You not only have no doubts, you're proud of being such a good christian that you don't have any doubts. Not doubting is what you do as a good christian. Doubts are EVIL.
So then you run into a sentence that you cannot answer, an argument that is based in logic and proves you, and the bible, wrong.
Hell, you can't even *look* at that too closely. Too dangerous, too evil. You know you believe, so (and this is where I start guessing) you just kinda defocus your eyes and mind and cleave to your faith, finding strength in your blindness. You cannot enter into that argument at all, you must pretend it's not there, and move on to something that you feel comfortable with. To address it would be to take a step onto the path of logic and reason, and that shit doesn't mix with religion. It destroys it. So you must pretend that the argument wasn't worth responding to, or you just reflexively blind yourself to it and hope it goes away.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It just makes my head spin with all the mental gymnastics you would have to do square all the conflicting information in the bible. Do you not kill or do you stone adulterers? Do you turn the other cheek, or take an eye for an eye? Do you forgive, or do you damn to eternal hellfire? The Old Testament shows God to be vengeful, wrathful, harsh, punishing, unyielding. The NT tries to say "nevermind, it's all sweetness and light." Seriously, if God was so distraught, angry and disappointed over his sinful creation and wiped out the entire population with a flood because of it, why didn't he get us right the second time around? He did the same thing over again, knowing that he had to kill us all the first time.
Off topic... Brian, we had reconnected on Huffpost when I fanned and faved your comments. Have you been on today? I cancelled my account. That whole issue that started in the summer with phasing out anonymity has now hit the fan. They tried to sell it as "old accounts will be grandfathered in, new accounts will have to link with facebook." They lied. Surprised? I knew they would do that. No more commenting allowed without being linked to facebook. For EVERYBODY. I don't have a FB account and never will. I enjoyed being a commenter and participant on the Huffpost site, but now will not go back. Being able to comment and discuss was the only reason to go there more often than the Daily Kos, or Slate and some of the others. Wonder what's up with the exclusive deal with FB....this farce of FB verifying your real identity is a sham, they're not verifying anything with all the fake FB accounts out there. And you can't verify with anything else, like Google or AOL. Just FB.

I hope the mass exodus that is happening will be all the message they need. I've been reading the comments to the change, 99% of them are from people who made fake FB accounts just to say they will now leave HP, tallying up how many friends have just disappeared by deleting their accounts, and laughing at the front page stories that used to have 1000 comments now having 20 or 30. Ya know what never makes sense? That whole free will thing. Supposedly god knows you when you are born, knows exactly what path you are going to take....he is your creator after all. Then they say he gives you free will to choose your life. Really? Then why does everyone then say that god has a plan for you when some tragedy strikes? If he has a plan that's going to work, why then does he create babies he knows will grow up to be....say Hitler or Manson. Can't he see that coming? Oh, free will, they turned against him. But he knew that because God has a plan for everyone's life, right? I love when the religious say "it's a miracle, god saved his life, god intervened and saved him!" when speaking of the lone survivor or a plane crash that kills 60 others. How is that a miracle? Why didn't he intervene for the other 60 poor bastards? Crash a plane load of 60 that everyone survives, then I'll consider your miracle. LOL

  41. This always bothers me, have never recieved an answer....say I'm a deeply religious person, I have total faith but want to know how biblical history works. I'm not a moron so I see with my own eyes things that are "off." After God wipes out the entire world of sinners save for Noah and his family....how did they repopulate the world? Who did Noah's children have children with? How did Noah's children then become different races all over the world....Asian, Nordic, African, Mayan, Aboriginal, etc? Either God did not wipe all people but Noah and family away, or there was massive change (evolution!!!!!) in the original family of Adam and Eve. And by the way, how then did Adam and Eve's childrens childrens childrens children become Asian, Nordic, Aboriginal, etc? So I ask the experts (atheists of course) what would a religious leader tell someone asking those questions? When I have asked the religious they punted...have faith, read your bible, not everything is supposed to be understood, the mysterious ways of god, etc. Do they ever have an answer?

OK, even though I am no longer a HP member....this is quite an article:

I have NO idea what it means, do any of you? Hologram universe, string theory, dimensions, time, space, particles.... and they're serious. And Ian....no loaves of bread to slice, I promise! :-) If anyone can explain the basic concept of this to me, would be much appreciated. I'm completely fascinated without knowing why or what the implications are.

    1. I've seen this before. It would seem that it's gaining support.

We think in three dimensions, and one of time. However this can be a projection off a two-dimensional surface. Like a hologram is projected when laser light strikes a flat surface with encoded information on it. Actual reality may be nothing like wee perceive it to be.

It's things like this that makes me think my ideas of reality being consciousness aren't so far-fetched. When science starts to sound more absurd than the magical thinking, then at least, it's food for thought.

Science isn't there yet. Perhaps it will be someday. It does seem to get closer as time goes by. For now it will seize upon first one thing, and then another. Anything but the obvious. But that's okay. That's its way. And by proceeding that way, when it finally gets there, people will be able to believe it when it announces it.

Hey, just me pondering... nothing definite... just a hunch, badump-bump.

  49. TV and movies can't possibly be influencing me that much! (But btw...how many phone calls do I get if arrested? I was SURE it was just one......how can that not be right?)
Seriously though, we do see the results he was speaking of all the time. Hardly anyone remembers we still have a war going on, and after 25 5-6-7 year olds were gunned down just one year ago, nobody is scrambling to keep gun regulation an issue. The moment passes, the collective agenda moves onto the next thing.

  50. Stupid people are more invested in making the world more stupid. They make up what they lack in intellect with sheer effort.
    We need to wake up.

Lets imagine what it would take, what magnitude of catastrophe, for it to happen.

It would have to be huge. Bigger than losing a city, for instance. Huge.

  51. I just re-watched "Man Of Steel," the newest Superman movie.

    Superman really missed the boat.

He should have chosen a different costume.

He should have just pretended to be Jesus Christ.

Now, that's a movie that needs to be made!

See Jesus slap the shit out of congress... lol... They couldn't kill him (and how they'd try!) so eventually they'd have to accept him as Jesus, and then accept that Jesus says that they are wrong.

I can have fun with this.......

  52. Ahem.

New post is up. Or new article, or what.... what is that anyhow? Is it a new article, and this is a post, or what?

Anyhow, new post. You should go there. Do it. Do it now.
